Hip Joint Pain Secondary to Steroid Use

joshrocks:

Any crohn’s or chronic inflammation patients have issues with joint pain?  How do you deal with it or what would you recommend.

I have terrible hip pain from Crohn’s. My case is considered moderate to severe but I’m on Cimzia and mostly in remission right now. I’ve never taken steroids for Crohn’s (which is incredibly rare, but I’ve managed without them). Sometimes the joint pain/ swelling gets so bad that I can’t walk and it feels like my hip is sliding out of place. The only suggestions I have are rest, use a heating pad, and pain medication (if you have it). Try to stay warm, letting your body get cold can make the joint stiffen up and make it that much more difficult to move. Don’t take NSAIDS unless your doctor okays it because they can cause additional stomach problems.

The joint pain has been much better since I started Cimzia. Before I had pain in my elbows, toes, hands, and hips. Now it’s just my right hip and I really only need pain meds for it rarely.
